The Men in Our Company

Andrew Andrew
Having loved musical theatre since childhood joining a society was always something I was going to do... until now.  "Me & My Girl" is my first production with WODS and I am having a fabulous time.  Even the dancing is improving.....erm I think?????

Bill Bill
Bill, Rita's other half, is a prematurely retired teacher who escaped from education several years ago!  His first stage appearance was as 1st Priest in "Murder in the Cathedral" at school.  He 'rested' until 1993 when he got involved in the WODS props team for 3 years.  In 1998 he joined the chorus for "Kiss Me Kate" and has performed in every show since then.  His best part to date is the Wizard in "Wizard of Oz."  He has really enjoyed getting back on the Playhouse stage and working with the current production team.
Bob Bob
A local primary school head teacher by day (until April 2009), Bob is a long-standing member and treasurer of WODS.  He joined in 1985 after moving from Basingstoke with his wife and three daughters.  He has had many leading parts including Tevye (Fiddler), Professor Higgins (My Fair Lady), Francis Fryer (Calamity Jane), Fagin (Oliver) and Billis (South Pacific).  He enjoys comedy roles the most and always sees the comic side of the characters he plays.  He has been nominated for the Rose Bowl best actor awards for five times for Professor Higgins, Tevye and Fagin and Hines in 'Pajama Game'.  He has recently turned his hand to directing and was responsible for 'Anything Goes' in 2005 and 'Godspell' in 2008.  He is looking forward to directing 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' in April 2009.

I have always sung from a early age and been in a couple of bands over the years but never really taken it too seriously.  I have always enjoyed musical theatre but never considered joining a society until my partner suggested a should give it a go.  My partner's friend just happened to belonged to WODS and they suggested I come along to see if it was for me, well I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My first show was 42nd Street, in which I managed to land a principle role and what an experience, I had such a great time doing it I was still signing the songs weeks later and couldn't wait to get started on the next show.  I hope to keep enjoying performing for many years to come.

Eric Eric
Eric started to tread the boards in Amateur Dramatics over 30 years ago whilst serving with the Armed Forces in Germany.  After a short break of 27 years, he was persuaded by his daughter Carrie, to join WODS for the Society's "Old Time Musical" production as a member of the chorus.  That was in 2001.  Since then "Oklahoma" and "The Merry Widow" have been added to his list, again as a member of the chorus, but wanting a challenge he took his first principal role as Henry Miller in "Calamity Jane."

Having always absolutely loved the theatre it is no surprise that I decided to take the plunge, with some encouragement!!, and look to fulfilling a lifelong ambition.  So we went on the hunt for a local amateur dramatic society, WODS was the first one that we came across, we made contact with the society and we were asked if we would like to come along to one of their rehearsals to show us what they did and how we felt.  I have to say we were welcomed with such humbleness that it would have been virtually impossible not to return.  So here we are several months down the line and we are in full rehearsals for the production of "Me and My Girl."  It is an honour to be working with some very talented people of whom are all so very friendly and welcoming.  As well as wanting to be involved in something to do with theatre we also wanted somewhere where we could meet new people as we have recently moved down from London, this is the best place as we have made some wonderful friends.  I look forward to working with WODS for many years to come.

PaulR Paul
While sitting next to a member of WODS at a New Year's Eve party a year or so ago, Paul allowed himself to be talked into joining a local Gilbert and Sullivan group.  He liked music and could dance, but had absolutely no previous experience of singing or amateur dramatics.  However, he enjoyed himself so much playing a pirate and a policeman in "The Pirates of Penzance" that it wasn't long before he decided to join WODS too - for their production of "My Fair Lady."  He had great fun appearing on stage as a gentleman, butler and costermonger and is now looking forward to taking part in WODS concerts and stage productions on a regular basis.

Ray Ray
Ray comes from London and his musical background is Rock 'n' Roll and country rock.  He has always been around music, his older brother played piano while Ray sang for his relatives, and he has sung in bands and as a solo performer around London.  Since moving to Weston in 1979 he has been involved in folk music, as well as a country rock style group.  Calamity Jane was his first experience of amateur operatics, and he is now firmly hooked.  Ray played Moonface Martin in the November 2005 production of "Anything Goes."  His characterisation was excellent and he brought the house down with his facial expressions!
